Amir smiles with surprise. The two boys walk together to the store. They talk about their math homework and the soccer game after school. The umbrella is not very big, so they walk close and laugh when the wind pushes the rain at their shoes.
At the store, Leo buys everything on the list. Amir buys eggs for his grandmother. The woman at the counter gives them a dry paper bag and says, "Good boys. You helped each other today." Leo feels warm, even though his socks are wet.
When Leo comes home, his mother sees his wet shoes and asks what happened. Leo tells her about Amir and the rain. She smiles and says, "A good umbrella keeps more than one person dry." Leo puts the blue umbrella by the door again, ready for the next rainy day.
The next day at school, Amir brings Leo a small drawing. It shows two boys under one umbrella and rain falling all around them. Leo laughs because the umbrella in the drawing is much bigger than his real one. Amir says, "In my picture, there is room for everybody."
Their teacher sees the drawing and asks the class to talk about helping people. Some students tell stories about holding doors, sharing pencils, or carrying books. The stories are small, but the room becomes warm with happy noise.
After school, Leo walks home with the blue umbrella in his bag. It is not raining, but he feels ready. He passes the grocery store and waves to the woman at the counter. She waves back and points to the clear sky.
At home, Leo hangs the umbrella by the door. He knows it is only an umbrella, not a magic thing. But yesterday it changed a wet walk into a friendly walk. Sometimes a useful object becomes special because of how you use it.
On the weekend, Leo cleans the umbrella and checks that it still opens well. His mother asks why he cares so much about an old umbrella. Leo says it is not old to him. It is the umbrella from the day he learned that sharing can be easy.
